Teaching Statement

I believe that art has the power to transform how individuals see themselves and the world, just as it did for me. Growing up, I was influenced by stereotypes that labeled art as a subject for girls. However, within weeks of engaging in art, I discovered that creativity transcends gender and boundaries—art is defined not by who creates it, but by the ideas it conveys and the emotions it evokes. This realization has deeply shaped my teaching philosophy. As an educator, I aim to foster an inclusive environment where students are valued as artists and encouraged to explore their unique identities through art.

Art has always been my lens for understanding the world, and it has profoundly influenced the kind of teacher I aspire to be. I believe that art serves as a mirror to society, allowing us to engage with meaningful subject matter and real-world issues. In my latest project, I explored the “Doom Scrolling Epidemic” through diverse media, including clay, plaster, pencil, and paint. It is through such relevant and thought-provoking topics that I hope to cultivate critical thinkers who view art as a powerful tool for expressing ideas and engaging with the world around them.

Above all, it is my responsibility to create a safe, collaborative, and respectful learning environment. In my classroom, ideas will flow freely in a non-judgmental space where all voices are valued. Disrespect towards peers’ work or opinions will not be tolerated. Through group discussions, collaborative projects, and open dialogue, I aim to foster an environment that celebrates diverse perspectives and encourages students to experiment boldly.

Creating an inclusive environment is central to my teaching philosophy. I will achieve this through thoughtful strategies such as inclusive language, differentiated instruction, scaffolding, and providing diverse examples of artists from all backgrounds. My ultimate goal is to make art accessible and meaningful to every student, inspiring them to take creative risks and express themselves authentically.

As a newly qualified teacher, I recognize that I am at the beginning of my journey. However, I am committed to continuous growth through reflection, adaptation, and learning. My aim is to empower students to see art not just as a subject, but as a tool for understanding
